Newsletter for the week of August 9-13      posted 08-09-2010

We made it through our first week! The children all did very well adjusting to our classroom rules and procedures. We have been talking about the importance of completing our class work, and the children know they will be missing recess to complete unfinished work beginning Monday. I will never make a child sit out of recess to complete work if I see them actually attempting to do the work. If a child misses some of his/her recess time to complete work, it will be because they were given a considerable amount of time to complete it in class and I observe the child not working. On a lighter note...unfortunately, I let time get away from me on Friday and was not able to do "treasure box" with the children. I gave them all $10 in Panther Bucks and told them we would do it first thing Monday morning. I will also have a special treat for them on Monday as a reward for an AWESOME first week of school!

The following will be reviewed during the week of August 9-13.

A Peek at Our Week:

Phonograms - g, o, s, qu(http://homepage.mac.com/ashleya/villa/spalding27.html)

Language Arts - Letter sounds, handwriting

Reading - Elmer

Math - Numbers 6-10, one-to-one number correspondence

Science - Properties of an object (color, size, shape, texture)

Reminder: Please pack a water bottle and snack for your child daily.

Upcoming Events: Please see the school website for information on upcoming school events.

***The children will have a phonogram pre-test on Wednesday (Aug. 11th) covering the phonograms a, c, d, f. For the test, I will say the sound of the phonogram and the children will have to write the letter. They can write the letter in capital or lower-case form. If a student does not make 100%, he/she will re-take the test on Thursday. Children who make 100% on the pre-test will get an extra recess on Thursday. We will learn four new phonograms per week and will soon have 10 phonograms on our tests each week.
