Volunteer Opportunites      posted 07-24-2007

There are many opportunities to fulfill your volunteer commitment at EWA. Donating classroom supplies, being a classroom parent, or chaperoning field trips are just a few. PAL is sponsoring “PAL Is In Your Corner” boards located in the k-5 lobby and upper grades lobby. Teachers will put sticky notes on the boards with things they need volunteers to do. Parents who want to meet their volunteer commitment can take a sticky note off the board, complete the task and then record it on their volunteer time card.

In addition to this, there are many opportunities to serve on PAL committees that will fulfill your volunteer commitment.

Volunteer Coordinator: Collects the volunteer timecards, enters the information into a database.

Candy Man fund raiser committee: Robin Hinton is our Candy Man fund raiser captain again this year. Candy Man kickoff is August 23rd. Last year the funds raised were used in conjunction with an IBM matching grant to purchase forty thousand dollars worth of computers to outfit a computer lab that the upper grade teachers can sign up their classes to use. An additional eleven thousand dollars was contributed to the media center in the Elementary building. One thousand dollars went to support the PE dept.

Book fair committee: Money is raised to purchase books for the media center.

Dinner with the Arts: Money raised goes to the Fine Arts Depts.

Dress Down Days: Money raised supports the PE and Foreign Lang. Depts.

Spring Fling: In support of our teachers, the money raised is used for Continuing Education Assistance.

Teacher Appreciation Committee: One week is hardly long enough, but we do our best to pamper our teachers and show them how much we appreciate them.

EOG Breakfast: Each morning before the EOG testing PAL provides breakfast for the students

Finance Committee: Serves as advisor to the Executive Board on matters relating to the financing of the Executive Board’s administration and that of its programs.

Nominating Committee: Will communicate with all parents in the first quarter of the current year, informing them of the nomination process and requesting potential nominees. In the second quarter of the current year, the nominating committee shall present a slate of officers and proposed new Executive Board Members to the membership.

Uniform Swap Committee: Provide opportunities throughout the school year to swap gently used uniforms.

Box Tops & Can Labels: Volunteers would help promote the program, collect the items, turn them in and recognize the classroom that collects the most.

Recycle Committee: This committee will collect cell phones, ink cartridges, and phone books and turn them in for cash to support things like the EOG breakfast, Teacher Appreciation, and additional PAL expenses.

In your grocer's freezer section, look for Tyson Products that display the Project A+ logo. The label you save is easily identified by looking for the simple 1, 2, 3 program steps. Each label is worth 24˘ cash! Send the labels to school with your student.

By clipping the small symbols found on many popular name brand foods, you can help EWA PAL raise funds. Save these symbols in a small plastic bag and send them to school with your student. The homeroom teachers are familiar with recieving the symbols and passing them on to PAL. Be sure to record you efforts on the monthly volunteer time log. For more information contact our captain, Wanda Flowers (Flowerswanda@aol.com).
