Hello all!!

We went on our field trip to the candy factory on Thursday and the kids and I had a BLAST!! I hope that they came home talking about all the wonderful and fun things that we did and learned. I was so proud of them. They were a very good example of what Pinnacle is all about.

We have a few things happening next week that require your attention.

1. The candy boats!! I am so excited to see what type of creation they have came up with. They are all due on Wednesday, March 10th. We have decided to earn panther bucks for thier creation as well. 1st place gets 40, 2nd place 30 and 3rd place 20. Even if the student doesn't get the top 3 (judged by 2 other teachers), they will still recieve 10 panther bucks.

2. Thursday, March 11th is the "Swap Shop." Our classroom is responsible to bring in an item or two to have be "bought" by the students (school wide) with thier panther bucks. This could include Capri Suns, Lollipops,or fun size candy bars. I need each student to bring in 1 pkg of fun pencils or pens and 1 pkg of fun erasers to "swap". This is an all school event that the kids have been working so hard on to achieve. Please have the pkg of pencils or pens AND the pkg of erasers by Wed., March, 10th.

3. Friday is a half day, please look at your tag for appropiate pick up times.

4. The Prep kids are starting to come into our room on Fridays to tutor the class about the AIMS tests. This is a great opportunity for the Prep kids and ours to learn from someone new. We did this last year and the Prep kids brought a lot of "spice" into the test. :) They will be here for an hour on March 5th, 12th and April 2nd and 9th.

5. My reading class is starting thier first vocab packet to go along with the Wordly Wise curriculum. They are excited. I am sending it home on Fridays, but I ask that they only study thier spelling words over the weekend and that is it. PLEASE. The words on the packet are thier spelling words for the week as well. There are only 12 words, so I am hoping that everyone will pass. We will alternate and do the regular spelling list next week.

Thank you for everything!

Have a great day!

Policies and Procedures

Grading: We are on the 100 point scale for all subjects. I rarely give the opportunity for extra credit points.

90 – 100% = A
80 – 89% = B
70 – 79% = C
60 – 69% = D
50 and below = F

Homework:
Homework is limited to Monday through Thursdays, unless posted otherwise. Homework will include Math and Reading. It is work that has already been taught in the class and should not require adult help. Their homework will be written into their planner by them, checked and signed by me before they leave school for the day.

Discipline:
Our class runs on a 4-step program (similar to the light system).
Step 1: (Snack Shack/ S.S.) – Start of each day
- The student is not needing any reminders
on how to act, talk and/or behave in class.
Step 2: (Water/ W) - The student has had to be reminded at
least 1 time on how to act, talk, and/or
behave in class.
Step 3: (Sharks/ Sh.) - The student has had to take a break in a
“buddy room” due to having to be
reminded many times on how to act,
talk, and/or behave.
- NO CALL HOME
Step 4: (Tidal Wave/ TW) - After returning to his/her classroom, the
student is still having to be reminded on
how to act, talk, and/or behave
- The parent will be called by the student to explain his/her behavior

Each day, your student’s step will be communicated in his/her planner by me. I expect his/her planner to be signed by an adult before returning to school so I know that it was looked at. There will be consequences for the student if this isn’t done. You will see the abbreviations for each step along with my initials on the bottom of the planner page.

Snack/Recess:
Our snack is from 9:20 to 9:45 A.M. In order to utilize our time efficiently, please do not send items with your child that need to be heated, as they will not be able to use the microwave during this time. Snack is held in the classroom, not in the cafeteria.

Lunch/Recess:
Our lunch is from 10:50 to 11:50 A.M. Unfortunately, until further notice, we will not have hot lunch served. I will keep you informed of any changes as I receive them. Lunch will be eaten in the cafeteria. The refrigerator in the room is only used for lunches containing dairy products (ie. cheese, milk, yogurt). There is not a microwave in the classroom this year.

Dress Code:
Our students are required to wear uniforms; please see student handbook with any questions. We do however have spirit shirt Fridays. On these days, the students have the option to wear his/her current year spirit shirt with their uniform bottom. No jeans, or shorts please. * If your student chooses to not participate, he/she needs to be in full uniform.

New this Year:
• During pick-up, NO parent/guardian is allowed to walk in through the gate to pick-up. You must sign in through the office to be on campus at all times.
• The students are not allowed to have any drink other than water in the classroom due to spilling on the carpet.
• There are NO dress down days other than spirit shirt days.
• Snacks and frozen capri suns will not be sold.
• NO teacher is allowed to sell water bottles and/or candy out of his/her room unless it is for a club fundraiser.
• In order to volunteer and/or visit any classroom, you must have at least 24 hour prior approval from the teacher you wish to visit.
